Scream Payet

Scream 2: In theatres October 25th featuring lead actors Roberto Firmino and Adama Traore.  The second batch of Scream cards was met with much anticipation after the first week of the Halloween promo and I would say it did not disappoint. There were a lot of cards that caught the eye but one in particular, had to enter my Weekend League squad.  After picking up IF Ben Yedder (it seems I am the only person who did not get his red card) I was struggling to fit the Frenchman into my squad.  The Scream promo delivered with an interesting option in Dimitri Payet, a strong link to Ben Yedder and an interesting card on the surface.  West Ham fans look away, as Payet was better than expected in the following squad:

Overall

Rating: 8/10
Pace Rating: 7.5/10
Dribbling Rating: 8/10
Shooting Rating: 9/10
Passing Rating: 9/10
Physical Rating: 8/10
Defending Rating: N/A

This card was as well rounded as the 80+ stats in every category (except defending) suggests.  Payet played the entire weekend in the CAM position of the 4-1-2-1-2 wide formation and was fantastic.  The unwritten attribute was the runs this card would make throughout the weekend, and then with DEADEYE attached, 93 FINISHING & 93 SHOT POWER took care of the rest.  Almost a goal a game from midfield is a high rate of return for me and on top of that Payet added 10 assists. With DEADEYE Payet is at almost all 90+ passing statistics and some of the passes he played throughout the weekend were top class.  4 STAR WEAK FOOT means he can do all of these things with both feet, and then he has the flair of 4 STAR SKILLS added into the mix.  A perfectly well-rounded card at a decent price.

Linkability

Rating: 3/5

The French League is such a difficult league to connect without getting into the big budget options.  Linking Ben Yedder was causing me numerous issues, and the release of Payet definitely helped.  However, the useable connections were few and far between and need to be considered when going for this card without Ben Yedder attached.

Current Game Strength

Rating: 4/5

Even with the quality, Payet has on the ball, and the excellent returns from this weekend, Payet is still outside of the current meta.  The lack of pace was an issue at times, and to add pace with a chemistry style means taking away from all of the qualities DEADEYE gave him.  Additionally, the defending on this card is terrible and takes away from the versatility of positions.  He is an out and out CAM, which is not the worst because of his strength in this position, but it would be nice if you could move him around the pitch.

Value/Coins & Good vs. Bad

Value/Coins Rating: 4.5/5
Good vs Bad Rating: 5/5

Throwing these two categories together as they complement the other perfectly.  When you look at Payet’s good qualities you get a snapshot of why he was so successful this Weekend League.  85 STAMINA and 88 STRENGTH are excellent physical traits to run the midfield and the shielding on the ball was perfect all weekend.  82 BALANCE and 79 AGILITY are not terrible either and everything Payet does on the ball felt quick and responsive.  To top it all off as the video will show, this guy was clinical all weekend and finished a good percentage of the chances created by the quality positions he takes up on the pitch.  Then there are really only three negatives that come to mind from the 20 matches this weekend. First, pace… the game is about pace, and Payet is just a little short in this category. Second, while Payet has 80+ in all offensive categories, he doesn’t have a 90+ in any and that lack of specialty does leave him looking like an average card. Third, what is that celebration?  The default celebration on this card is terrifying as Payet runs and creepily thinks about what he has just done.  On a more serious note, 76 FREE KICK ACCURACY just doesn’t seem right, does it?

With all that said, how can you really go wrong at 90k?  The price on this card is 100% a result of the other options in the Scream Team, mixed with the aforementioned fact that he does not boast a standout stat.  For my mind, he just about worth the price tag and does deliver a good amount of quality for a reasonable cost.

Closing Words

I can’t lie, after not looking forward to the Scream promo, I will be sad to see it go.  The cards have been interesting and Scream Payet is just one of those players offering an intriguing option.  I do think the main reason FUT Managers will consider this card is the nice link to IF Ben Yedder and I can let you know that he was exactly that … a nice option.  Payet is not going to win you a match single-handed, but he won’t lose it for you either.  This card will create and finish chances while providing good strength and stamina in the middle of the pitch.  I hope your own Weekend League went well.  Cheers for reading.
